Getting To Grips With Garden Design

If you have ever dreamed of designing your own garden, or would like an insight into how it works, this course will provide a great foundation to build upon.

Over two days Adam will reveal how to create a design that is a practical and individual space.

He will guide you through design principles and share his philosophy on the three most important aspects to consider – people, plants and space.

Adam will also talk about where he draws his inspiration from. You may even get an insight into how a designer designs his own garden!

Time will be spent in the classroom, as well as outside in Adam’s own garden.

Planting To Be Proud Of

Great planting softens lines, adds structure, texture, focal points, mood and atmosphere. Although choosing and combining plants can be overwhelming.
Spend two days learning the secrets of how Adam approaches planting design.

From creating individual borders to assessing the planting in an entire garden, Adam will teach you his process and the principle points to consider. He will look at the best plants for specific situations, as well as how practical considerations can affect your choice.

By the end of the two days, you will be able to confidently approach improving existing borders, or plan a planting scheme from scratch.

Getting the most from your garden

Great garden design isn’t just about starting from scratch with an empty garden. It can also be about looking at what you have and understanding how you can develop that space.

Join Adam as he reveals how to get the most out of your garden. From getting more from your soil, to renovating overgrown shrubs and developing existing borders and planting schemes. The day will be a combination of time inside and outside, with Adam using his own garden as an example of how to rethink different areas of a garden.

The day will really show you how to look at an existing garden with fresh eyes and then how to go about making improvements.

Second Step Garden Design

Spend two days with Adam refining and developing your approach to designing a garden.

Adam will get everyone designing over the two days, providing lots of opportunities for advice and feedback. He will also look at and give examples of more complex garden designs, where the location, levels, shape or size of the space made creating a successful design more of a challenge.

Our Second Step Garden Design course is aimed at people with some previous garden design experience, or who have joined Adam before for a design course.

Over the two days, there will also be the chance to share personal projects with Adam and the rest of the group.

Dates for 2020 will be released later in the Spring.

Second Step Planting Design

If you’ve attended one of our planting days, or have some planting design experience already, then this course is an ideal next step.

This informal but in-depth two-day course will build on the basics of planting design, allowing you to really explore different planting styles, seasons, and how to create beautiful and adventurous planting schemes.

Over the two days Adam will get you to put your own planting design skills into practice and will be on hand to give individual advice and feedback. He will also chat about the more challenging planting situations that gardeners often face, and prove that even the hardest areas to plant provide exciting opportunities.

There will also be the chance to share and develop personal projects with Adam and the rest of the group.

Dates for 2020 will be released later in the Spring.
