How We Work

When a potential client first contacts the studio, we send them some basic questions and ask for images so we can begin to understand what the project might involve.

Next we set up a consultation visit and I spend a few hours looking at the site and talking things through with the client. It’s important to discuss all sorts of things and not just garden, so everything from music to cooking, how they live their life, what they love and don’t love. I try to get a feel for them as people and what’s important to them.

Then I’ll work up a full costing for the design, specification and planting plans. If the quote is acceptable, then I have a survey done of the site, Depending on the size of the project this can either be done professionally or inhouse.

Subsequently, I’ll spend more time talking things through in more detail with the client. I’ll take some photographs and look at any level changes that might be involved. After that, I work on a concept for the layout and design, which I present along with a moodboard and visuals so that the client can understand my concept. I’ll continue working on the design, making any necessary adjustments until everyone is happy. Once the design is accepted, we work on detailed specifications, including everything from lighting, setting out plans, all the construction details and a full set of planting plans.

At this point, there are various options. We can either manage the entire build, simply provide a set of plans or recommend and communicate with landscapers. We don’t provide a fixed service but tend to work according to the client’s individual needs.

Once the garden is built, we can also provide any after care, such as interviewing for suitable gardeners or providing comprehensive after-care packages. We’re happy to work in whatever way best suits the client.

Charging

The fee structure is broken down into various elements, including the initial consultation. design, specification and planting plans. Fees vary according to the size of the project and how much travel is involved. Fees for the main work are divided into 3, then after that we charge an hourly charge for any extra input that the clients require.
